I just read The Hobbit, Or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkein.
In this book, Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, goes on an adventure with Thorin, Thorin's friends, and Gandalf, to fight the wicked dragon Smaug and take back Thorin's treasure.
I liked that there were some good riddles in this book:
Cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
and empty holes it fills.
It comes first and follows after,
ends life, kills laughter.*
There was something I didn't like--the description of Bilbo getting out of the mountains didn't seem very detailed. I liked twists to the story, like Gandalf leaving the group.
I would recommend this book to people who like medieval fantasy--stories with war, a medieval setting, and has fantasy creatures like goblins and dwarves.
*The answer to the riddle is...dark.
